Homeopathy is a safe and holistic system of medicine which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognizes that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment and not just the symptoms. The remedy seems to act as a powerful catalyst which stimulates the body to regain balance and restore homeostasis.
People are becoming increasingly disillusioned with conventional medicine and questioning the quality of their health care. They are searching for more natural ways to improve their health and are choosing homeopathy as a gentle alternative or complementary treatment. In homeopathy they find a treatment that looks at each person as a unique individual and works with the body and its ability to keep a person in optiumum health. Homeopathy takes into account the rare and peculiar symptoms that can be difficult to diagnose but which are very real to the sufferer.
Homeopathy is a natural system of healing discovered in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, a physician who was disillusioned with the techniques employed by the doctors of his time. It employs the principle of ‘Like Cures Like’, also know as the Law of Similars. The word homeopathy is derived from the Greek words meaning ‘similar suffering.’
Second most used Medicine in the world!
According to the World Health Organisation, Homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world today. Used by over 200 million people on a regular basis, in more than 50 countries around the world!
It is an extremely effective and low cost system of medicine. For that reason it is included in the national health systems of a number of countries e.g. Brazil, Chile, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
INDIA
India leads in terms of number of people using homeopathy. 100 million people depending solely on it for their medical care. There are over 200,000 registered homeopathic doctors, with approximately 12,000 more being added every year.
EUROPE
100 million EU citizens, some 29% of the EU’s population, use homeopathic medicines in their day-to-day healthcare. Homeopathy is practised in 40 out of 42 European countries. In France and Germany it accounts for over 40% of prescriptions from medical doctors.
UK
10% of people in the UK use homeopathy. That is about 6 million people.
In England it is protected by a royal charter. This was as a result of it’s dramatic success in an outbreak of plague in the 1800’s.
In the NHS there are approximately 400 doctors working within the homeopathic service. And there are about 1,500 professional homeopaths (not doctors) in the UK
Homoeopathy principles are based upon observing certain laws of nature. This includes understanding the causes of disease, and nature’s way to return to health. Naturally occurring, mild yet powerful medicines are then used as treatment.
While in health our body is continuously cleaning, repairing and maintaining itself. However, for a multitude of reasons, this self-healing process can become blocked, and then we can fall into illness. Homeopathy ‘unlocks’ our vital energy, so that our self healing ability is restored. Like fixing a bug in a computer programme, so that the whole system can function properly again.
